Project Aral at Silid Aklatan

Babuyan Missions

Camiguin Norte, Babuyan Islands is one of the farthest project community reached by Black Pencil Project in the northern Philippines. It began from a simple whale watching expedition in the summer of 2009 and led to an amazing collaboration with various charitable group of volunteers headed by Fr. Joemar Sibug, OP of the Dominican Missions. A story of a pencil equally divided into three pieces by a teacher so that three children would be able to write came from this community and inspired Black Pencil Project advocacy further to reach out where hope is needed the most.

Film by Charley Sta. Maria and Dino Dimar for Books For Babuyan. Winner for Best Documentary at the PEACE Awards 2015, awarded by the Universal Peace Federation A webishort about the children of the remote island of Camiguin de Babuyanes, Philippines and one Dominican priest calling out to the world to help him give these children equal education opportunities. Our hope for the children just like in other places is that have complete supplies; enough books and proper access to information. We hope that even if this island is very remote, children can still be provided with the supplies they need and to be equipped with the proper tools to learn.

We Are Black Pencil Project

Changing The World One Pencil At A Time

Filipino school children in remote areas suffer the lack of something many take for granted. Black Pencil Project is a collective initiative committed to provide school supplies like pencils, pens and paper to public elementary school children living in remote and indigenous communities in the Philippines, particularly during back-to-school season.

We believe that children must be enrolled at the right age and appropriate grade level to achieve full learning potentials.

Inspiring Photography

Shooting Your Why's

We began as a photography-based volunteer group that organizes photo treks (weekend warrior program) in picturesque Ifugao province. During photo safari tours, light school materials such as pencils and crayons are collected and are brought efficiently and inconspicuously to the communities. The idea of traveling off-the-beaten paths and for-a-cause captures a participant’s interest. They later became the organization’s avid volunteers and excellent ambassadors, promoting the advocacy on a personalized level through pictures and words.
