Black Pencil Project readies for Babuyan Project Aral trip

Makati City – Black Pencil Project readies its upcoming Babuyan Islands trip to distribute Project Aral Packs to more than 200 elementary pupils from Grades 1 – 3 of Camiguin Norte District this June. This is in collaboration with National Bookstore Foundation Project Aral Program for the school year 2009. Beneficiaries of the project includes 6 primary and elementary schools of Camiguin Norte.

“We’re happy to know that our exploration in Babuyan last April was fruitful, as a result, we will be going back to Camiguin disregarding the potential risks in order to deliver what we’ve promised to the children so that they all can go to school this coming school year” said Mon Corpuz, BPP Project Director.

Former WWF volunteer videographer Rolly Magpayo joins Mon Corpuz on this endeavor after introducing the islands to Black Pencil Project. Also facilitating help is Lyceum of Camiguin Prior Fr. Jerome Sibug O.P. who offered to ferry the school materials from Sta. Ana port in Cagayan to Balatubat, Camiguin.

Babuyan Islands is composed of five major islands (Camiguin Norte, Babuyan Claro, Dalupiri, Fuga, Calayan) that belongs to Cagayan province. Due to harsh sea condition, the islands are hardly reached by boats. There’s no airport available and the islands and can only be reachable by outrigger/ fishing boat ferrying from Aparri, Claveria or Sta. Ana ports.

For more information regarding the trip and assistance you wish to extend to Babuyan Islands, please send us an email at info@blackpencilproject.org.
