Humble Beginnings

Black Pencil Project began on June 2008 when hobbyist photographers Mon Corpuz, Edwin Karganilla, and Zer Cabatuan visited a small community called Cambulo in Banaue, Ifugao.
It was the beginning of school year at that time and so the three decided to bring a bag of pencils for the kids.
Humbled by the warm hospitality of kids and the villagers, they realized the shared value of social responsibility and vowed to continue the effort in their own little way.
Thru network of friends and the Internet, the small advocacy had evolved to a collective initiative; garnering support from private individuals and various organizations such as mountaineering groups and photography clubs nationwide, as well as foreign tourists and overseas Filipinos abroad.
