Black Pencil Project aims to reach every Filipino child in the farthest communities around the country. Black Pencil Project believes that it is through collaborations and partnerships that empowers the advocacy to reach out these far-flung communities.

* Remote communities are sitios, barangays or municipality with no road access (accessible by foot) or has no decent pier (island communities).

Indigenous Communities in the Philippines are listed on National Commission on Indigenous People website.

  • As a guide, estimate can be based on the total number of enrollees of Grade 1 X number of Grade Levels available in the community's public elementary school. Example: 20 Grade 1 x 7 = 140 pupils.
  • A classroom is considered as building with roof. A mango tree does not count a classroom.
  • Include teachers from Day Care, Para-teachers, ALP and volunteer teachers under the public school.
  • Share to us why are you referring the community, tell us stories, the struggles of pupils and teachers going to school.
